In the past few months, following the news of Cab Vol’s ‘rennovation’ and the imminent forced relocation of the Bongo Club, many of Edinburgh’s staunch night time music lovers undoubtedly began to feel a little disarmed by the prospect of our coveted scene’s potential downfall.

However things are looking decidedly positive, while the former’s relaunch is going ahead this week (kicking off a surprisingly exciting and varied month of acts - Alex Metric and Blawan being particular highlights), and the city’s more discerning club-goers are beginning to discover a new hidden gem of a venue to pop up - in the form of The Annexe. And discover it they certainly did last night at the second 49hz party, where BB favourite Mosca tore the roof off in true style.

Forget Me Not - What Were You Gonna Say [DAR001]

words: belch | label: diamond & raw

Edinburgh based label Diamond & Raw first caught our attention when we boogied down to their showcase at Coalition back in early March. Equipped with a high calibre soundcloud, carefully chosen roster and a couple of banging showcase mixes - there were no surprises when head honcho Adam Rowley smashed it at Sneaky Petes. Now, their debut release from Bristol based trio, Forget Me Not, is set to drop at the end of this month - and you can have a listen to the whole thing and see what we have to say about it after the jump.

words: bex | photos: chris rubey | video: belcher

As the weather moves (very) slowly towards spring and we begin to shake off those second semester blues, a good night out is definitely welcome. But this year a host of the unique venues which define this city are facing closure. The most recent of these threatened spaces is one of Edinburgh’s best underground venues; the beloved Bongo Club. from the floor: Popof [Cab Vol, Edinburgh]

words: charlotte lelong

With news that Cab Vol will be shutting down soon, it is time to reminisce on all the good times - and Karnival’s 6th birthday last Saturday definitely makes that list. French producer and DJ Popof was there to play his flawless blend of minimal techno, tech-house & electro beats, which kept us bouncing all night. I managed to catch him for a quick chat after his stellar set, which you can read after the jump. When I spoke to him however, he initially told me that he’d never actually done an interview in English before and didn’t feel comfortable doing so.
