download: Coma || Where Do We Go (Synthetic Epiphany Remix)

words: belch

Hereford based Synthetic Epiphany (a.k.a. Marcus Levy-Chance) is certainly one of the relatively few emerging ‘future garage’ creators who manages to cut through the vast wash of Burial tribute acts who dominate endless soundcloud pages. His slick production style and well-crafted percussion particularly caught my attention at first, and recent collaborations with CoMa, the beautifully dark and unique female vocal talent from Kent, certainly bode well for things to come. With a debut EP on Edinburgh-based label Seeking Blue in the pipeline (entitled ‘Beauty In Errors’) - we have this track to give you, a remix which features on Coma’s ‘May All The Bridges I Burn Light My Way’ EP. Listen and download after the jump.

download: TreeFNGR - I’m TreeFNGR

words: belch

Although our last post was a TreeFNGR tune from a couple of weeks back (it’s been sat in the outbox whilst studies have taken over) - here is the brand new tune dropped on the soundcloud today. Known to me as ‘Klut (1st Demo)’ since I’ve been playing it in my sets - but apparently rebranded as ‘I’m TreeFNGR’ - this one, with it’s hypnotic vocal samples and more gully vibes on the beat, certainly provides a solid introduction into the mind of the anonymous producer (or producers?).

Download it, get it in your life yeh.

download: TreeFNGR - Five Ticks

words: belch

Elusive and anonymous producer TreeFNGR has offered up a second free tune, titled ‘Five Ticks’. Carefully chopped vocals and burial-esque vinyl crackles placed alongside atmospheric synthesis, leading to an unexpectedly phat bassline - we’re not particularly keen on futile permutations of genre names, and this is certainly a prime example of why - drawing heavily on dubstep and UKG, but underlaid with a decisive house beat.

Listen and download below - and keep an eye on TreeFNGR - big tings a gwaan.

download: ∆kkord - Submerged

words: belch | photo: nathan gibson

Anonymous bass outfit ∆kkord, self professed “collective of like-minded artists raised in and around the rural outskirts of Manchester”, act as both a record label and a murderous production team. They only very recently hit our radar, when they dropped the exciting first digital release, ∆kkord001, at the back end of last month. With the limited run of the 12” on beautiful hand-stamped white vinyl (released on the 5th March) already gone, we’re very excited for the next instalment. Preview their sound and download the free track “Submerged”, which has featured heavily in my sets of late and we played in BB#6 on Friday - after the  jump.

artist focus: harvey kartel

words: belch | artwork: mr. arak

Glasgow has always been a hub for flawless forward thinking underground music - you don’t have to look any further than artists like Kode9, Rustie and Hudson Mohawke, along side labels such as Numbers and LuckyMe who are home to some of the maddest tunes and parties around.

And it certainly hasn’t peaked as a centre for talent by any means  - confirmed by emerging Gtown Bass pioneer Harvey Kartel, who has been smashing out the tunes on his soundcloud over the past year. His track, Say Yes (repped by Rustie in a mix for NPR last summer) has featured regularly in my sets of late.

Below is an exclusive new Beyonce bootleg kindly sent through from the man himself - alongside more downloads of his recent bangers. Make sure you turn your subs up for these - and watch this space, as we will soon be kicking off our artist interview series with a chat with this brer!

download: Tyga “Rack City (Taz Buckfaster Remix)”

words: belcher

Tyga’s ominous gangster hip hop track “Rack City”, released last month on Cash Money Records, has been given some well needed UK Bass treatment by Electrikal Sound System resident and fast growing Glasgwegian talent Taz Buckfaster. Dropped on his twitter (@FackBuster) earlier this week, this not-so-official remix is mosdef worth getting your hands on.

download: Scuba “Flash Addict”

words: belcher

With the release of his forthcoming LP Personality set to drop on Hotflush at the end of this month, UK bass aficionado Scuba (real name, Paul Rose) gave away the B-side from “The Hope”, the upcoming 12” single from the album. “Flash Addict”, a deeply percussive number with an eerie yet somehow uplifting vibe, shows off Scuba’s masterful control over sound design and savagely infectious rhythm. Everything here bodes very well for his third album on Hotflush…

Listen to a preview of the whole release, and download “Flash Addict” below.
