This week the collaboration of kings has been released into the interweb - Justin Vernon (AKA Bon Iver), a heroically beautiful song writer and genre-unique artist meets James Blake, his british doppelgänger in terms of musical wizardry.
Some might say these two artists have a lot in common - largely similar vocal style, same unique vibe to their records and both had self titled releases this year (easily my two favourite albums of 2011). And this collab is just what I expected - a beautifully crafted song with balanced elements of Vernon’s uniquely eerie melodic style; Blake’s cacophanous building chord sequences; subtle use of autotune (a common trait of their previous releases); Blake’s deep groove. All elements of what makes both genre pioneers unique - tastefully blended together into a collaborative masterpiece.
That’s my take on it anyway.. listen for yourself. Available to buy on iTunes after the bank holiday.
I give you, Fall Creek Boys Choir
